Spotlight on: Microsoft Excel for Business and Microsoft Excel Advanced

Microsoft Excel is used in nearly every office in North America, in some capacity. Continuing our series on our Microsoft courses (click here for our post about Microsoft Project, and here for our post about Microsoft Outlook), today we are focusing on Microsoft Excel for Business and Microsoft Excel Advanced.

First, let’s start with the course description for Microsoft Excel for Business:

Learn to use Excel to create budgets, track costs and generate quotes.  Learn tools and ideas that will save time and create professional looking proposals and plans.  Participants with only a very basic knowledge of Excel will quickly progress to create basic databases, budgets, graphs, reports and the fundamentals of building equations.
The following list summarizes skills that participants will be comfortable with after this course:

  • Customize excel options and views
  • Create and manipulate tables
  • Filter and sort data
  • Apply formulas
  • Use the correct syntax to insert functions
  • Create and format cells and ranges
  • Order and group cells and ranges
  • Apply cell ranges and references in formulas and functions
  • Summarize data with functions
  • Apply conditional logic in functions
  • Format and modify text with functions
  • Create and format charts and objects

This hands-on course is taught by a certified Microsoft Master Instructor. Participants will receive authorized Microsoft manuals and Microsoft approved practice exercises.

Our next Microsoft Excel for Business course takes place on August 23 in Burnaby.

Once you’ve brushed up on your basics, register for our Microsoft Excel Advanced course! Our next session is in Burnaby on September 1. Here’s the course description:

Save hours and minimize errors by learning how to manage data and reporting through tables and with the use of pivot tables, graph data and be able to make dynamic charts and identify trends with trend lines.

Build error proof data entry sheets through the use of data validation techniques so that reporting is virtually error free. Learn to use advanced functions like Vlookup, If function and build complex nested functions with ease.

Come with your questions and learn tips, shortcuts and how to program simple macros from a Microsoft Master Instructor.

The following list summarizes skills that participants will be comfortable with after this course.

  •  Use advanced functions such as
    o Information
    o Lookup and reference
    o Conditional logic
    o Conditional summary
  •  Add data validation, including using pick lists
  •  Remove duplicate data; circle invalid data
  •  Create, modify or remove a hyperlink
  •  Work with shared workbooks
  •  Add protection to workbooks and worksheets
  •  Track changes
  •  Use data analysis tools
  •  Create and modify PivotTables or PivotCharts
  •  Use slicers with PivotTables
  •  Create and run Macros
  •  Add form controls

This hands-on course is taught by a certified Microsoft Master Instructor. Participants will receive authorized Microsoft manuals and Microsoft approved practice exercises.
